A Total Trans4mation

Interstate 4 is often called the backbone of transportation in Central Florida. It not only provides a crucial link between Tampa on the gulf coast and Daytona Beach on the east coast, but also plays a vital role serving one of the world's most vibrant and popular travel destinations, Central Florida.

Interstate 4 consists of 73 miles of roadway in Central Florida. A 2000 study revealed that it accommodates an average of 1.55 million trips daily in Osceola, Orange, Seminole and Volusia counties, and that 58 percent of daily drivers on I-4 are commuters, 12 percent are non-work related drivers and commercial vehicles traveling to the area and 30 percent are tourists. Since 2003, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has opened approximately 76 miles of new lanes to relieve congestion and improve safety on I-4.

Over the next few decades, FDOT will reconstruct 73 miles of Interstate 4 from the Central Florida attractions area (Osceola/Polk County line) to Daytona (I-95).  A total trans4mation is already underway. View our Photo Gallery
